Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a very distinct style of hatha yoga. It stretches the connective tissue rather than conditioning the muscles, the latter being the aim of most other styles of hatha yoga. Experientially, the practice is characterized by passive asanas held for several minutes each. For example, your back tisues are normally stretched so that you hunch over to the front: writing, reading, working on a computer, driving, sitting on the couch watching TV. In Yin Yoga, we train your back tissues to bend backwards, slowly, so the tissues remember they actually can bend the other way. This creates muscle memory and allows your body more flexibility, more movement, more range of movement. In Universal Yoga, we start the 8-week course for the beginner and then slowly move up to a more intermediate practice by the end of the 8 weeks.
